Since the scalp’s oil is stripped away during exfoliation, overdoing it could cause the scalp to worry and create even more oil than usual. It is possible for tea tree oil to trigger adverse reactions, including temporary hair loss, in sensitive individuals. Tea tree oil may cause skin irritation in some people; to test for an allergy, dilute it with another carrier oil (as described above) and apply it to a small area of the skin.
